Term break was great packed full of horses events and comps. On my last week I had my wisdom teeth out. I didn't bounce back quite as quick as was expected and the pain killer's (Endone) didn't settle to well with me. The last term of school rolled around and was finished before I knew it. My holidays really started in late November.
The first week of December I went down to Benalla where I stayed with friends, picking berries, and riding for 12 days.
Christmas was nice and quiet.
Picca's foal was actually due around then, so we had to stay home and watch her most the time. It wasn't until last friday morning (2nd of Jan) that I noticed she was waxing up. Finally! A sure sign she'll foal within the next 48 hours. She was already over due.
I went back inside and got something to eat for lunch. When I next looked out the window I saw her getting up and down alot so I went to investigate.
When I walked out I could see the feet of the foal! In 8 min the foal was out and kicking around! It's rare for a foal to be born durring the day. 80% of all foal are born in the dead of night. Also it's pretty rare for the owners to watch the birth. You have to be in the right place at the right time.
She had a beautiful bay colt who looks very much like his father. Four white feet and a star snip. We're tempted to call him Strider. He's prooven to be a very photogenic horse!
